Q117 Being Charles Rose

Want to grab a seat in my living room and hear what things I talk about with my best friends? You know the kind of friends that see you in your pjs with mascara running down cheeks and hair thrown up in a messy bun more times than not. Then, this podcast show is for you.

Author, blogger, ghost writer and dad of two teenagers, Charles Rose, is on the show today. We talk about spirituality, intuition, how to deal with heart break, and what I was like at fourteen! We dive deep into questions and thoughts like: What to do when tragic things show up in your life even when you think you are being so good? What happens when we grow up and are able to decide what we believe? What happens if that is different than what we grew up believing? What do you do when you feel like life has spun you so fast that you’re not even aware how lost you really are? What does it mean to speak your truth? Are there boundaries to that? What would you today tell your past self?

Charles is a single dad, an explorer of the human condition and the person I go to when I need to work some things out. He offers a lot of techniques and tips he turned to over the past couple of years that has helped him stopped spinning (at least as quickly). I love playing with these bigger concepts about life with him.  This is real talk between two dear friends. Grab a coffee or some tea and join us.

Q116 Being Heather McClelland

If you are new to yoga or have been practicing for a while or even if don’t know a thing about it,  you will love this episode with MY Yoga teacher, Heather McClelland.  Surrounding myself with people that are full of positive energy and light helps me do the work I do. I invited Heather on the show to help us grasp a beginning understanding of energy and chakras. She’s a new business owner, and we dive into that story at the top of the show! She tells a great story about how Yoga was always trying to get her attention.

Show Notes:

Bio:

A graduate from Cazenovia College and a Syracuse native, Heather McClelland has always had some interest in yoga whether it was seeing yoga studios and wondering what it was all about or hearing people talk about it and wondering what exactly it was. In high school, she had her first experience actually practicing it, using a video to learn how to stretch and it became a way for her to get physical exercise besides running or playing a sport (she hated participating in gym-other than when she had the choice to do yoga). She remembers her very first real yoga class she attended (out of all the different kinds of yoga of course it was hot yoga- at points she thought for sure this is how her life was going to  end), She made it through, but she remembers feeling so nervous and felt like everyone else knew what they were doing but her. As she began to practice more and more though she felt comfortable and really enjoyed it. In college she began to deepen her yoga practice, and completely fell in love with every part of it- she was hooked. Shortly after, she decided that she wanted to take the teacher training. In January of 2014, she began a four month long teacher training at Lotus Life Yoga Center in Dewitt, NY with Kim Fischer. She received her 200-hr yoga teacher certification. Shortly after she also became certified to teach Aerial Yoga (May of 2014.)

Aside from yoga she loves being outdoors, hiking and traveling. She loves a good vinyasa style class along with hot yoga but thinks it's really important to keep a balanced practice with some yin.

When coming to one of her classes you can expect to learn meditation, breathing techniques (pranayama), yoga philosophy and asana (physical movement). She hopes to inspire others and be able to create a safe space for people to learn who they are at their core through the practice of yoga.

Q114 Being Catherine Greer

How do we step up, claim our space and take our turn? Why are we so scared to say who we really are? What do we do when we want to change? Catherine Greer is on the show today to help us navigate these questions and to spread the message that your choice of who you were yesterday does not need to be the same today.

Write that down! This is huge!!! You can change who you are no matter what anyone tells you! (If you have or are a teen, this show is a must listen to).

“We all play way too small. Especially as women we’re taught to shrink...not to have too loud of voice.” says Catherine. The two of us in our own way, in our corners of the globe, are on a mission to change that.

Her new beautiful book, “Jacaranda Snow,” is a must read. 3/4 of Australian kids live in poverty yet they do not have stories they can see themselves in. This is why I love Catherine. She saw that and then did something about it!

She also decided to approach writing and pitching in a completely new way- by letting go of resistance, getting into flow and making alignment before action her mantra for all her work.

She’s my writing coach and friend. She truly is beautiful and the best. I know you’ll love her.
